An estimated 2-4 percent of the American population today suffers from fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a neurological chronic condition affecting the musculoskeletal soft tissues such as muscles, tendons and ligaments. The disorder causing discomfort, chronic widespread pain, fatigue, stiffness,  tenderness of muscles and painful response to pressure.

People who have fibromyalgia may also experience other symptoms such as, bowel and bladder abnormalities, difficulty swallowing, sleep disturbance, restless legs syndrome, painful menstrual periods, headaches, TMJ disorders, anxiety, depression, poor concentration, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Not all people with fibromyalgia experience all associated symptoms.

Fibromyalgia is often not commonly known by the medical community. Doctors have yet to find out the exact cause of fibromyalgia. This however does not mean that people who have fibromyalgia are doomed to suffer this pain forever. There are many things you can do to relieve the pain and manage other fibromyalgia symptoms.

Supplement

- S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) supplements may be used to help reduce your fibromyalgia pain, fatigue  and depression. It also helps reduce tender points, anxiety, and improve sleep quality.

- A magnesium supplement is also seen to help with pain and tenderness associated with Fibromyalgia.

- Vitamin D. Fibromyalgia problems  can be a result of lack of vitamin D. Deficiency of Vitamin D can cause many problems, including pain and discomfort. Vitamin D can be found in some foods, such as oily fish and egg yolks, and can also be manufactured by the human body through exposure to uv.

- 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is a supplement thought to work by increasing serotonin in the brain so that pain modulating systems of the brain are positively impacted. Stiffness, anxiety, sleep, fatigue and pain may all be helped.

Exercise

Regular daily exercise is the key to regulating the growth hormone that maintains good muscle and soft tissue health and assisting in deep sleep. So often, people who suffer from Fibromyalgia respond to the pain in their muscles and joints by reducing their daily movement. But this is actually one of the worst things you can do. Reducing movement can aggravate the pain and stiffness in the body and increase the possibility for injury.

Acupuncture

It involves the use of pressure points often applied by inserting needles into your body at the acupoints and controlling those needles to achieve positive effects. During the acupuncture treatment, several types of opioids may be released into the central nervous system there by reducing the pain.

Massage

Swedish massage utilizes a system of long, gliding strokes, kneading and friction techniques . This help in improving blood circulation, and releasing chronic patterns of muscular tension.

Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a recommended therapy for fibromyalgia and may help greatly to control pain. The mind body relaxation techniques used in Biofeedback can reduce stress and chronic pain.

Meditation

Meditation known as mindfulness could help patients  to ease fatigue and improve the effects of depression and overall quality of life. During a meditation session, patients learn to relax, focus inwardly, and release tension and distracting thoughts.
